I hate to be the ogre in your Halloween festivities, but this week’s newsletter from The Center for Health, Environment and Justice has a scary Halloween warning: Check the ingredients on the face paint you’re using to transform your kids and grandkids into zombies, witches and other characters. Many face paints contain lead. Those masks made of PVC plastic may also be spreading harmful substances on kids’ vulnerable skin. (more…)

Jury Duty vs. Grandma Duty

26th October 2009

You are hereby ordered to report for jury duty on October 23, 2009, read the official summons for Jury Duty.

The letter arrived about a month ago, and I promptly wrote the date on my calendar. I also made a note to call after 6pm on the night before for pre-reporting instructions. I had no other commitments for that date and was looking forward to the possibility of serving on a jury.

But, unfortunately, the jury summons got relegated to the back burner when I accepted several irresistible invitations. (more…)

On my last visit to see my granddaughters, I was reminded of a very important lesson: Don’t forget to hug your grandchildren’s parents before you rush past them to grab your grandchildren. In the past, in my excitement to see my granddaughters, I’ve been guilty of bypassing my daughter. Apparently, I’m not the only one. The GaGa Sisterhood will have a table at The New Mom Fair this Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 11am-3pm at the Beresford Community Center and Park, located at 2720 Alameda de Las Pulgas in San Mateo, CA.

The New Mom Fair is a FREE event open to the public sponsored by The New Mom, Parenting on the Peninsula, and Bay Area Birth Information. The focus of the fair is to provide information about health options available in your local community. (more…)
